In celebration of 50 years of Monica, character created by Mauricio de Sousa, São Paulo presents the Urban Intervention “Monica Parade”, which exhibits 50 sculptures of character on the city streets.
Maurício de Sousa, who will also conduct the “intervention” in one of Monica’s sculptures. Lobo and 48 more artists were invited to join the party.
The exhibition follows the same concept of the “Cow Parade” and features the work of artists chosen by Maurício de Sousa and spread all over 50 different places in the city, such as parks, touristic sights, newsstands, architecture landmarks and CEU’s (Unified Education Center).
Among the parks that received the artwork there are Ibirapuera Park, Parque Alfredo Volpi, Trianon Park, People’s Park, Independence Park and Parque Buenos Aires.
Made of fiberglass, Monica sculptures are 1.60 meter high on the top of a 25 centimeters high base.
After November 8, the sculptures can be also seen at the site www.monicaparade.com.br, bringing together news, photos, artist information and the making of the production parts. All sculptures will be auctioned and the income will be donated to Unicef, where Monica has been the ambassador since 2007.
